The Stables provides access to a wide range of local amenities including:

  • Within 5 minutes’ walk:
  • The Navigation Inn our local pub and restaurant couldn’t be closer! The Stables is situated adjacent to The Navigation, set back from the road but only steps away for a friendly drink or a meal. Fridays are ideal for our guests as it is ‘Fryday’ at the pub with take-away Fish and Chips available from the bar… and they supply carry out beer too, just the way to start your holiday!
  • Village shop    there is a Farm Shop just over the bridge and down the lane from The Stables for you to sample local home grown produce. Further supplies are also available from Canal Central.
  • Canal Central our local Tea Room with Afternoon Cream Teas to die for! A short stroll down the towpath from The Stables and you will be there.  Local produce is always on the menu with Shropshire bacon, sausage and eggs for your breakfast butty, local jam and home baked scones and cakes will whet your appetite all day long!
    Bike Hire can be arranged from here too - with Tag-alongs and child bike seats too
    Coming soon - a narrow gauge railway is currently being put in at Canal Central and should be offering rides by the summer 2015.
  • The Original Ball is our other village pub and is situated between Maesbury and Oswestry - still within walking didtnace if you like but a car journey would be more advisable if you have children with you.
  • Within 15 minutes’ drive:
  • Other pubs    there are plenty of pubs in Central Oswestry should you wish to explore further afield. Please have a look through the Tourist Info supplied at The Stables for some ideas of which to try first!
  • The Queens Head is a busy pub restaurant that can be reached along the towpath or by car just up the A5 towards Shrewsbury. It serves food all day long and needs to be booked in advance.
  • Restaurants    Oswestry also plays host to a full selection of take-away restaurants (some will also deliver), cosy Italian restaurants, a Modern British Restaurant – The Walls and high end dining at Sebastians.
  • Supermarkets    we also have a selection of supermarkets locally with Sainsburys, Morrisons and Iceland in Oswestry itself and Tesco at Ellesmere. All of these are also available in Wrexham and Shrewsbury if you need a wider selection.
    • Tesco will do home delivery to the village when you order online and Iceland offer free delivery if you spend over a certain amount in store.
  • Other shops    in addition to the above Oswestry offers most high street shops to visitors from Boots the Chemist, WH Smith and Argos to gift shops, boutiques, bakers, a cosy bookshop with café and a pottery shop with ceramics studio if you’re feeling artistic!

 

Should you choose to travel without a car, or just leave it parked up when you are on holiday, the Arriva Bus Service 576 runs from Shrewsbury - Oswestry via Maesbury Marsh 6 days a week. All you need to do is pack up your day bag and head to the road to see the Bus Stop. Timetable information can be found here.

For travel by train the closest station can be found at Gobowen - there is a free car park adjacent to the platform
